Ceremonial start-up of the cryogenic equipment of laboratory

On June 24th, 2011 ceremonial start-up of unique cryogenic equipment has taken place in laboratory. Among the invited visitors were the Russian and foreign scientists, employees of plenipotentiary representation in Privolzhsky federal district, management of NNSTU n.a.R.E.Alekseev, students and postgraduate students of NNSTU.
Laboratory opening will provide possibility to create new specialities of cryogenic nanoelectronics. It is quite probable, that very soon such specialities will be offered entrants at the entering NNSTU.

Besides in the near future NNSTU n.a.R.E.Alekseev is going to aspire to the awarding of a status of a Scientific Research University. Employees of NNSTU are assured of willingness of NNSTU to keep colleagues from UNN (Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod) the company.

Kuzmin Leonid Sergeevich

Professor of Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenberg, Sweden). A world-renowned scientist is the creator of many unique instruments, used in science and technology, recognized by the international scientific community. The main task of the leading scientist in the framework of the project is to create the scientific school and a world-class lab, which must become the centre of creation of THz receiving systems of a new generation, supplied with all necessary equipment and qualified personnel and provide a coordinating role in creating complex systems in the framework of wide international and interindustrial cooperation.Professor of  Chalmers University (Sweden). 3-d LCN Workshop

DSC09417In the third ten-period of January in Nizhny Novgorod and in the boarding house «Dubki» (traditional gathering place of the Russian microwave community) was held a remarkable International scientific forum 3-d LCN Workshop. The formal reason for the event was summarizing the first year of full implementation of the project «Development of ultrahighsensitive receiving systems of THz wavelength range for radio astronomy and space missions». The project is implemented by Nizhny Novgorod Technical University that invited Professor of Chalmers University of Technology, Leonid Kuzmin, to create a modern laboratory of cryogenic nanoelectronics at the University. The team won a grant of the Russian government.
The event was attended by about 150 people from Nizhny Novgorod, different Russian cities and abroad. There were 54 staff members of LCN, leadership, professors, students and graduates of NNSTU n. a. R.E. Alekseev, six members of LCN Steering Committee, representatives of Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and Ministry of Education of Nizhny Novgorod region, Nizhny Novgorod Scientific Center of Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as leading representatives of institutions and enterprises of Nizhny Novgorod: IAP RAS, IPM RAS, Quartz, Salut, Vremya-CH, ITEP, IPME RAS, etc. A great interest for the event was shown by representatives of universities , in addition to Nizhny Novgorod universities there  were  representatives of Moscow universities: Lomonosov MSU, MSPU, MIPT, MISIS and Novosibirsk Technical University.

About the project

aboutApril 9, 2010 Russian government adopted a decree № 220 «On measures to attract leading scientists to the Russian educational institutions of higher professional education».
Decisions of funding was accepted by the Grant Council of the government of Russian Federation, membership of which is approved by the governmental decree № 517 , dated April, 9, 2010.
Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n. a. R.Y. Alexeev together with the leading scientist, professor of Chalmer’s University (Gothenburg, Sweden), L.Kuzmin  prepared an application in the scientific field “Electronics” for research on “Elaboration of ultrahighlysensitive  receiving systems of THz  wavelength range for radio astronomy and space missions”.
As a result of an open competition NSTU was one of the 40 winners, and embarked the project.
The main objective for the next two years is to create a world-class laboratory on the basis of the university. The lab, being created, will become not only ideological centre for creation receiving systems of THz wavelengths  range of the new generation , finely equipped and provided with highly qualified personnel, but will also fulfill coordinating function in creating complex systems in the framework of world-wide interdisciplinary cooperation.
Such status would allow the laboratory to give a new impetus to the traditional cooperation between university, academic and industrial science of the region and Russia in the development of electronics. As a result the new serious market challenge of the new products is offered; active participation of the consortium, with NSTU at the head, based on the cooperation indicated above, is possible for implementation of both: aspiring domestic projects (Millimetron, Suffa etc.) with international participation, as well as overseas projects (Boomerang).
